01. What do I have to do to recycle oil at Eko3r?

In order to recycle oil at Eko3r, your municipality needs to have hired our service. To do this, the containers need to be installed on the street and you will also need a bottle that will have been delivered to your home beforehand. If your municipality does not have the Eko3r Service and you are interested in hiring it, we suggest that you contact us so that we can arrange an interview. We would be delighted to visit your municipality to explain to you in detail what our service entails and to prepare an offer to suit your needs.

02. Can I recycle cooking oil in my village/town?

In order to be able to recycle oil in your municipality, you need to have Eko3r containers installed on the street, as well as a bottle that will have been delivered to your home beforehand.

If you do not have the Eko3r Service and you are interested in hiring it, we suggest that you contact us so that we can arrange an interview.

Eko3r will be responsible for installing the containers at the strategic points indicated and for delivering a bottle to every home within the municipality. Once the user has filled the oil receptacle, they can go to their nearest container and put the full bottle into the container, in return for which it will give them a clean and empty one so that they can continue recycling.

As soon as the system tells us that the container is approximately 80% full, we will collect the full bottles, clean and maintain the container and provide it with clean and empty receptacles. In this way, we avoid the annoying scenario of users finding the containers full.

03. What happens to the recycled cooking oil?

Today, the most common destination for this type of oil is biodiesel, for the following reasons:

  • Biodiesel is a renewable energy source: eco-friendly.
  • It contains no sulphur in its composition and therefore generates no SOx in engine exhaust gases.
  • The carbon content is lower than that of conventional diesel fuel and emissions into the atmosphere are therefore reduced.
  • It is a biodegradable fuel.

Apart from Biodiesel, there are various other destinations for used cooking oil:

  • Soaps
  • Wood oils
  • Oils for casting moulds
  • Cosmetic products (glycerine)
  • Oils for circuits
  • Cutting oils for cooling tools

04. What types of oil can I recycle?

Vegetable oils and fats can be recycled, i.e., the ones we use for cooking at home. In addition, all those included in canned food. For any other clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.

05. How can I obtain a recycling bottle?

We deliver a bottle to every home when we install the containers in your municipality. If for any reason you need another bottle, please do not hesitate to notify your local council and they will be responsible for providing you with one. Should your Council run out of stock, they will be restocked according to demand.

06. Can I use any other type of bottle?

At Eko3r we believe in sustainable development and are therefore committed to the values of recycling.

  • Reduce: We reduce the pollution of rivers and treatment plants. Our bottle achieves 100% efficiency in the collection of oil, as we recover all of the oil poured into the bottle.
  • Reuse: We reuse the bottles and therefore ensure that receptacles such as water bottles, honey jars, jam jars, etc. are put into their corresponding containers (glass receptacles), so that they can be recycled properly.
  • Recycle: We recycle oil in homes with a bottle designed specifically for this purpose.

Consequently, the answer is no; in order to recycle used cooking oil in the most sustainable way possible, you need the Eko3r bottle.

07. What are the benefits of recycling with Eko3r?

The bottle is one of our key aspects. Other systems accept all kinds of receptacles for depositing cooking oil. However, the washing requirements for each material are different and so in most cases the necessary level of cleanliness is not achieved for subsquent recycling.

With our system, the bottle is used repeatedly by the users and after a certain amount of time it is recycled, with the material being turned into secondary raw material for a new bottle. In this way, the end of life of one bottle is cyclically related to the beginning of another.

08. How can I recycle cooking oil in the most efficient way?

The following basic advice has a direct influence on making the system more efficient.

  • Avoid solid substances when pouring the oil into the bottle. Use a sieve or similar utensil.
  • Water does not dissolve in oil and it is therefore advisable not to mix both substances inside the bottle.
  • Take the bottle to the container machine when it is practically full.
  • Only fill the bottle with vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, soya oil, etc.) and not mineral oil (car oil), or paints.

09. Is there a comprehensive service in the market for collecting cooking oil that is comparable with Eko3r?
